How addicted are you to fishing, well for me
i love to get out all weathers, but hate the wind, as i am just getting back into sea fishing from carp, have got it on my brain 24/7
so much to remember from 5yrs ago when i used to go reqular...
i know someone who goes carp fishing , and is a member of a syndicate, he goes before his shift starts and then after his shift ends, he does that all 5 weekdays, then the weekend he goes home to re stock for the following week, he must do that over 3/4 of the years, mind you u wanna see his mrs...!!!!

Hi Bob
Ive been off work now for about 12 weeks and have been fishing 3-4 times a week if not more for all that time, after moving back to the UK from Germany where it was all match and carp fishing, but like u and your mate i would be out 24/7 if i could come rain or shine. Plus i keep thinking the more i fish the closer i will get to that Big One

Feel the same as you Bob,
Think about it 24/7 . Just got back into it myself and hate the wind too as my casting still needs a lot of improvement to get the lead out there on a windy day. |

I gave up work a couple of months ago and knowing that the building work here in Ireland was slowing down so I been putting a few bob aside for when it came to a halt,
Now while my mates are out looking for work I’m at the coast fishing and just doing the odd job to help keep me going,
I would always take a month off after finishing a job and spend the time coast fishing, but I have turned it around now to fishing most of the time and waiting for the work to come to me,
I’m lucky in the sense that after 30 years at the game I can turn my hand to most jobs and get a good result,
I may take on full time employment again but not in the foreseeable future, today is the only day this week that I haven’t gone fishing mainly due to the amount of people that come here for the weekend,
You could say I’m getting greedy because I want the whole area for miles around to myself and tomorrow I will have just that… everyone will have gone home and as they are getting ready for work tomorrow morning I will be thinking about them as I get myself ready for another week of fishing,
It’s not easy this fishing lark… because you don’t know what time you will be finished.. Could be 4 / 5 or maybe 6am so its nice to be able to go to bed at any hour of the day or night and know your not going to be woken by the noise of traffic or people,
Another thing I like about this type of living is that I never have to set the clock to wake me at a certain time,
I go to bed when I’m tired and get up whenever I feel hungry,
It’s a great way to live, my only regret is that I should have done it sooner,
The fishing here in Co Clare is top class I’ve had 17 different species of fish so far this year and there’s more to catch,
Would you say that i'm addicted or just lucky, |

| A sure sign of fishing addiction is standing for hours in the wind and rain thinking that the mother of all fish is looking for your bait. The fascination with sea-fishing is that you never know what your gonna catch and that is what feeds the addiction. I reckon we have a primeval instinct to tolerate conditions to put fish on the table. The same goes for fire, people can look contently at a fire for hours because life depended on it not so long ago. |

interesting concept.
but back to fishing- for me its a bit of an obsession , ideally i fish once a week if finances allow, however at some times of the year family comitments /work/ and or lack of cash prevents me so it averages out at just over once a fortnight.
i fish to relax adn escape the pressures of life , its about the only leisure activity open to me now as beer/bikes /shooting have now had to take second place to my family and work.
there are times when i'm sat on the beach (last week at stokes bay) and i think- what the hell i'm i doing here ?, the expense of the trip/the unfavorable conditions / the fact that i'm not really having fun at all.
i think sometimes that even when it seems pointless somewhere inside my tiny mind is stamped the instuction go fishing, that is what you have always done to unwind
perhaps i just don't have the imagination to think of or try something new to achieve this.
my missus thankfully understands this need i have, and when the family joins me on the beach she often finds it so relaxing just to sit there in the sun(hopefully) and forget her troubles for a few hours, this respite soothes her jangled nerves as it does mine.
but for me its more than that, its never been enough just to go somewhere and look at the scenery, ive got to be doing something and fishing is an excuse to be somewhere other than home or work and it also forfills a deeprooted need to hunt , |

| I count myself very fortunate, living on Hayling and retired early with decent pension. I live about a mile from the beach and get down there at least twice a week, sometimes three times. Usually on my push bike - sun, sea and fishing can't beat it. Don't go when it's raining though as I can't see sod all through me specs unfortunately. |
