hi folks,
im thinking of trying braid for the first time and was wondering if anyone out there had tried it and what they think of it. does it cast ok? do you still need to apply a shockleader for distance casting? is it better than mono?
any opinions appreciated.

Ok Anmdrew I am a firm believer of braid and use Ron Thompson Cable braid of 80lb, yep thats right 8olb as its as thin as 20lb mono and will cover all situations. A word of warnig however if you birds nest it on a multiplier then pack up and go home. On a fixed spool its great. I do not use shockleader. Most on here will not agree with me on this point. If your boat fishing then casting is not required therefor its ok on a multiplier.
Cable braid is not cheap but its the best I have ever used. Hope this helps keith |

hi rabbi2,
yes mate, this has helped in a couple of ways, first off i posted this message on the north east coast forum and was worried when later in the day it had disappeared, prompting me to post another message almost the same, and send a worried pm to gazza76. (no favouritism intended). now browsing through this wonderful site i stumble across my original message.
im only just starting to get my head round this computer business so everyday i get a small revelation. second, thanks for the advice on braid, lots of info about it on this page also, tho im slightly worried cos im a dedicated multiplier man meself.
cheers for the info rabbi2. im off now to pm gaz not to worry

| Hi mate, i only use braid for spinning, plugging and boat fishing. On my spinning outfit it definately outcasts mono in distance, with the added bonus of instantly feeling every knock. |

Glad someone else agrees with me. Okay I know that braid has had a lot of bad reports in the past like Dacron and a few others that were thick like a rope clilmbers tackle and absorbed water like a sponge, but technology has come a long way since those days.
The only thing I can say if that your going to switch to braid then for gods sake get something decent like ron thompson cable braid. Otherwise you might as well invest in a handline. |
