Hello Ian,
I've two C3's for years, they are very nice reels and ideal for clean beaches, maybe just a tad slower than the chrome version but the oil type in the bearings would make more difference I don't know how much you paid but you wont be disappointed as they will last forever if looked after.

Never a truer word spoken. I myself use the larger models such as the ABU 7,000 but have recently upgraded to the 7,500s.
The Abu range just cannot be beaten and as previously stated will give you years of trouble free servioce if looked after. Cheers keith |

You won't be dissappointed - the 6500s are still built in Sweden (although the sideplates are now manufactured by another company that ABU contract with) and although the quality has dropped a little since their early days they are still a fantastic little reel.
I'd echo the other comments about looking after them - if you don't give them the appropriate level of tlc they rat out very quickly but with regular servicing they will last for years, I have a late 70s model that I still use to prove the point. |

If you've got a bust one of those fix it - or give it to me for spares for mine |

I tried to repair it but gave up, the frame was twisted and the spindle that carries the spool was bent!!!
Took them both into work and tried to straighten them but had no success so i used it for spares myself im afraid
Thinking of adding a 7000 to my collection though, as I do a bit of boat fishing here and there, and the sportsmags i use from the beach arent really up to upitding i dont think. Although they have been alright until now though, but i dont want to push my luck. |

| I used 6000s and 6500s from the boat for years and got away with it but it does knock the hell out of them, your right. The only thing about the 7000 is that like the rest of the ABU stable the quality has dipped a bit - still no probs as long as it has made in Sweden on the box but otherwise not so good. The older 7000s and 7500s would be worth a look as secondhand reels - bits are still easy to get hold of as well. |
