I was in my local tackle shop today and i saw the rod i am going to but (not buying from them as they are £30 more). It is a Shakespeare 12ft Multiplyer rod, However im confused because it didnt have a reel clamp??, It was a large like soft patch at the bottom of the rod?? Could anybody explain what it is?

fair enough. im getting a 13ft one from poingdesgres, for £63, a Mustad tripod for 17.99, 100lb whiplash pro for 17.95 and a 7Ht millionaire for 79.99. P+P is only £8, I consider that a bargain!
