Hi gang, I found this site while researching about dogfish. I've read most of the posts and thoroughly enjoyed all of the comments. It's interesting to see different ways of doing things. I live in Kent, east of Seattle, Washington in Washington state. I fish lakes for trout with a float tube and pontoon boat and I recently bought a boat to be able to fish Puget Sound without having to wait for an invite. It's rated at 20 ft. with a 150 Suzuki main motor and 6hp Suzuki for a trolling motor. I've added Scotty electric downriggers, Humminbird fishfinder and Garmin chartplotter.
Question - Do I need to soak the dogfish meat before I can use it or is bleading them well enough?
I saw on one post a mold for making a bullet shaped sinker. That looked interesting. I've made 10lb balls, 12 oz teardrops, banana sinkers and other smaller sinkers. I found a number of posts about casting lead and doing it in the house. STOP. The fumes will settle on everything sread continually. Children are affected easier than adults. Do it with plenty of ventilation, wear at least a paper respirator and don't smoke while working with lead. Lead is a big issue where I work and the floor people get blood tested twice a year.[/url]
Hi yankee mate. I do a lot of making my own weights including pirks and believe it of not I got the pirk moulds from the Sates. As for dogfish skin em and wash tem that should be enough. I cut the flesh into cubes the size of an oxo and deep fry. Opps by the way yankee welcome to the forum mate, May your rod be bent!! lol Cheers keith
