i have just aquired 4 crab pots which i will soon be using [succesfully i hope] normally if i pick up an edible crab at low water i bring a pan to boil and drop the crab in for 15 mins. is this time about right it always seems cooked ok and how long would you cook say 4-6 crabs together.

i used to catch crabs years ago ( lol) with my father-in-law
we had 20 pots and used to cook the crabs in a large copper ( not a policeman lol ) mind you it is legal for pregnant women to pee in a policemans hat lol

we cooked about 50 at a time but they still only took 15 mins

get a pan big enough for the amount you are going to cook then boil the water

if you want to kill the crabs before you boil cover with fresh water once dead then put into boiling water
keep the water boiling while the crabs are in there and remove after 15 mins
then when cooled scrub under cold running water

enjoy them they taste lovely

you can bait the pot with crabs to catch lobsters (used to be illegal to use edible crabs for bait so we used the shore crabs the ones we use as peelers )

you will need to get a crab met (a measure ) try a local marine supplier

it will then be a case of hope for the best

cheers steve

You don't need to steam/boil crabs for long, 5-8 minutes does the trick.
Good luck and enjoy the crabs!!!
