Line is only as good as the retailer stocks it. If for instance it is kept on the shelf in sunlight then it will deteriate rapidly. If it is old stock then it will not be up to much.

I myself dont care which line I use providing I know that it is up to the manufacurers specs.

yes it is i only ever use 2 lines in winter ,daiwa tournament 18lb which in my opinion is the best line i have used and red ice 18lb both take a very good hammering and are superb for putting under pressure when snagged the red ice is a lot less in price compared to the tournament but i would say that there is not a lot of difference between them they have never let me down in the last 10 years

As rabbi2 said, it is only as good as the stockist. Don't buy it from ebay, or other such site, buy it from a reputable dealer who has a good turnover of stock.
I bought two spools of Red Ice from ebay a month ago, it was impossible to tie a leader to it, I tried 5 different knots, all broke on pulling tight. I emailed Ultima and complained, they asked me to send it back to them, they were most helpful, they said that it was old stock and replaced it, at my request and no extra charge, with F1 line.

that's a very good point made by rabbi2 which applies to all line, i've only used red ice for 1 season in the higher breaking strain and had no problems with it.

Never thought about mono ..
I guess the colours of mono are for what ?? us to see or some other reason.

I would not have thought it would have made any diferance to the fish.

Clear Line and red line also yellow Very hard to see 30mtrs plus down.

I have when using mono never cared whom it was made by just so long as it was the b/s i wanted to use.

Changed the mono line every spring if i had used it or not.

I tend to buy line in bulk 1 or 2kilo's at a time and help out the local lads by letting them fill their spools at a fraction of what it would normaly cost them

Cheers
