Will be putting some braid on a couple of reels soon to try it out. I am planning to put some backing mono on first and was wondering what the best knot to use is for this and for connecting a leader to the braid. I have seen a number of knots recomended such as "J" knot, water knot and albright but would prefer a recommendation of this site as the help I have had from it to date has been top notch.

The plan is

1. 35lb mono as the backing
2. braid between 20-50lb for boat and 20lb for beach
3. 10-20ft 15lb+ fluorocarbon/mono leader for multiplier boat reel and standard 60-8-lb shock leader for fixed spool for beach casting.

Hopefully this is not too far off the mark.

Any advice gratefully received as always.

Richard

I use 20lb braid with a 50lb shock leader, I've always used an albright knot and have never had one part on me.

I have used the albright knot to join braid and mono for as long as I can remember. Just remember to gently pull and tease the knot together before the final tightening. You can trim the ends quite close as it will 'Knot' ( sorry big grin ) slip when tightened.
