Hi all went out this morning for a few casts with my new rod and reel a Kompressor ss and mag high speed

Casts went average the reel was in a low position on the rod and I was casting holding the spool with my left hand without the reducer and powering with my right but this is not my normal type of cast and felt awkward would I be best going back to holding reel with right and adding the reducer for the leverage any views comments on this would be appreciated and whats the difference in power delivery

Dont cast with the reel in the up position and use a butt extension to lengthen the rod. They ar not designed for this and YOU MAY BUST THE BOTTOM OF YOUR ROD. Theyre for using when casting with the reel at the bottom of the rod.

thanks both I will try it in the low but with the reducer and use my right hand on the reel next time chop and change a bit and see if I can get comfortable I maybe was powering through it too fast as I found my timing was not as great until I get used to this setup

I am right handed myself, but find it easy enough to cast with my reel set low and controlling it with my left hand. This then gives you the bonus of getting a good grip of the rod and having your stronger arm to push the rod through the cast.
I have tried casting the other way round out of curiosity, controlling the reel with my right hand, and boy what a birdsnest lol laughing

The SS is a great rod which picks up the lead so sweetly but you need to wind up the cast (assuming you pendulum cast) slowly before you apply the power- thrash at it and it'll bite back

Because of its length and action the SS is more suited to reel down rather than reel up- honestly- I would persevere with reel down rather than chopping and changing.
Good luck

i changed from right hand to left hand using the reel down the butt yes it takes a bit of time but once you master it you'll never go back,, as with the reel in the lower position you get more of your thumb over the reel giving your more grip,, the reducer is just there for reeling in with the reel down the butt not to make to rod longer for up the butt casting.. as other posts say SLOW down the cast untill you get used to it then you can start to power up

hope this helps
