Just had one that I was using on a boat when the rivets sheared off the reel seat lucky that one still held. Anyone had a similar experience? Fortunately enough easily repaired.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Keith. I have an Okuma Magnetex 45 that I use for uptiding when boat fishing. I have been very pleased with it so far, but will keep an eye on the reel seat rivets.
Cheers,
Geoff

I have only used my Okuma Magnetix 45 reel a few times, have always looked after it but, last Sunday, whilst wreck fishing in the English Channel, the spool release lever broke. On examination I am not surprised as the lever is made of plastic and is not much more than 1/16th of an inch thick on the axle. It is now with my local reel repairer who is making me a metal replacement lever. Poor show Okuma!

My local friendly reel repairer, 'Reelemin' of Lydd on Sea, have made a new spool release lever and the reel will be back in use later this month (my club's heaviest cod competition). The new lever is made from stainless steel and brass, so should be a lot better than the original lever.

Watch out for the rivets failing on the reel seat

Here is a picture of the new bespoke stainless steel and brass spool release lever fitted to my Okuma Magnetix 45 reel :-

A big improvement on the flimsy plastic lever.
