I've got a spare spool for my Navi in 6000 size and it's graphite...just wondering if it's worth me getting some braid or will it crush the spool. I don't tend to winch fish in but pump the rod and then wind so thinking maybe I can get away with it.

Tired of having a big bow in my line and hardly any bite detection if any at long range.

I've heard of people using backing line so the braid "digs" into the mono rather than the spool. Curious as to what the rest of you are using..

what knots do you use with braid and what's it like to tie? and can't you use mono as the shock? don't really want to have to buy two seperate braids as it's quite expensive and I would like to have some shock absorbing properties incase a big fish does show up.

is 40 lb braid roughly the same diameter as 12lb mono? cheers

First of all if you use a long trace then this in itself will act as a shock, I use a swivel between the braid and the trace as briad will cut through mono like a knif through butter. I use the normal hook tying knot between the two.
