decided to make the most of the sun this afternoon after spending all morning stripping the gearbox out of the mrs's peugot to change the clutch so took the family out to wisemans bridge beach.
i was granted permission to take the yak and do a spot of fishing on the condition that when id finished i took the kids for a paddle, so snapped at the chance and got her to drop me off at coppet hall with the malibu 2.
set up 2 rods, 1 spinning rod with a sidewinder eel and my brand new abu seven trolling rodand 7ht multi with a set of daylights.
anyway paddled out about 50yds to see fish breaking the surface all around me, even saw a few schoolies tailwalking 5yds in front of me :o (wish id brought the camera ) so wasted no time in switching my eel for a toby spinner. i managed to get 1 cast with the multiplier before getting the biggest birdsnest ever > so decided to pack that rod away and just use the 1.
after about 1/2 hour of casting the spinner among the jumping fish i managed to hook into a nice little schoolie of about 1lb (my 1st fish ever from the yak) which was safely released to grow for another year.
after about another 1/2 hour the tide started to turn and the fish disappeared so i switched back to the feathers and trolled from coppet hall across to the far side of wisemans bridge and back to the stream at wisemans.
by now the tide was in full swing and the waves were crashing onto the beach so i packed everything away and decided to have a play in the surf and everything was going perfectly until about 5 yds from the beach when what i can only describe as a mini tidal wave
spun the back end of the yak round and dumped me into the surf and scrape my elbows on the gravel but luckily all my gear was still intact.
waited for the tide to ease a bit and took the kids out for a 10min paddle b4 packing up to go home.
while i was packing up i got talking to a guy who had been out fishing off monkstone point in a RIB and caught 20 mackerel and a 5lb bass all on 1 set of daylights. (guess where im heading next time ).
