HI Guys

Sorry in advance for yet another question

As you all probably know from my other posts I am looking to get an ABU 6500 size Reel, although I would prefer a Mag type my local dealer has tempted me with an offer that seems to good to be true.

He has a Brand new ABU Six Star for 65, trouble is I cannot find out much about this Reel, its not even mentioned on ABU's web site.

So anyone know anything about this reel, is it worth the 65 or was it a lemon that was quickly dropped.

The only mention of it I can find said it was made in Sweden but that it has bushes instead of bearings, is that correct.

Thanks for any help with this and again sorry for all these daft newbee questions.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I hadn't heard of this reel (not unusual) so I 'googled' it and the only reference I easily found was it being sold in the US for around $80 (50). Other people might be able to give you better advice, but I would be a little concerned regarding how easy or not it might be to get spares for it in the future. But I am sure some of the 'reel experts' on this forum will put you right.

Cheers, Geoff happy happy happy

I've never heard of this reel so can't comment on it- however the fact that hardly anyone has heard of it would steer me away from it. There are plenty of older ABU 6500 CT's available second hand and to be honest there's really nothing wrong with the new ones either. Stick to tried and tested reels especially if it's your first multiplier- spares are radily available and because they've been around so long there's a fair few people around who can repair them and offer good advice on setting them up to suit you.

The Akios 6500 reels are very similar to the ABU's - I've tried them and so far no problems.
