Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of the big Total Fishing Gear 'Delta GT 10000' fixed spool reel as endorsed by Alan Yates and sold by Fishtek? At first glance it looks reasonable with a capacity of 410 yds of 15 lb line, a distance shaped spool and 10+1 ball bearings and a price of just under 70. Any advice will be most welcome.

Thanks and cheers, Geoff happy happy happy

Hi Reel_Wizard, thanks for your reply.

In a brilliant bit of timing, I ordered a TFG Delta GT 10000 reel just this very morning - and got an email of shipping confirmation this afternoon, would you believe? However, I got it as part of a combo with a TFG Banshee 14ft beachcaster with two tips (2-4oz and 4-8oz) for just under 100. As the rod and the reel individually sell for around 70 each, it seemed to be fair value.

They should arrive within the next couple of days, but I won't be able to use them for a while as I am just recovering from a knee operation. However, once I have had the opportunity to use them, I will write a review for them. As you say, they are unknown at present, so lets hope I have found another embryo Rolls Royce product (fingers crossed).

I am only an occasional sea angler, so the reel wont be subject to much overwork. Additionally, I always look after my equipment (cleaning and lubricating as necessary after EACH session). My current 1975 vintage reels (Abu Cardinal 70 fixed spool, Abu 6500c multiplier and Winfield International 50 boat reel) are all in excellent and full working order.

So, it is fingers crossed - I will let you know. But my timing of the order could have been better lol!!!!

Cheers, Geoff happy happy happy

Hi Reel_wizard,

The rod and reel arrived today and my first impressions are very good. The reel appears to be well made, is balanced and is certainly very smooth in operation. It also feels quite robust and would be able to cope with most requirements. No tools, lubrication or maintenance instructions of course, but many reels come without these in this day and age.

It has strips of a fine and soft bristle material between the rotating arms and the spool to prevent any loose line getting behind the spool. This seems like a good idea, but it remains to be seen how these wear with use. I also think that I shall have to ensure that these are fully rinsed and dried before the reel is stowed away, otherwise they could be a possible source of corrosion.

I wouldn't have paid the full RRP (90), but at around 30 as part of a combo it seems like reasonable value. It will be a while before I can use it, but I will give you further feedback once I have.

Best wishes, Geoff happy happy happy
