Going to give fly fishing a go this year and see how I get on with it, have got a new reel 7/8 wt Okuma still in box unused for 10 and was wondering what route to go down rod wise and help would be great .

Don't know about swffing mate but I do a bit of lure fishing in the summer and as I have written before, I use a lightweight 9' 6" uptider. It serves two purposes in that it is light enough let me keep flicking out a lure without getting too tired but tough enough to swop over and cast a bait with 4 ounces of lead if I feel inclined. I bet it would do swffing too if I wanted because it has a fairly whippy tip section. Oh yes, it's an all carbon Abu which I bought for 30 about ten years ago and still going strong. Probably a bit more money now but don't know without looking.

was it a bit windy when you praticed then daz big grin .the answer is yes .its down to your casting mate,it will get better with pratice.
just a tip to assit with your casting, pull off a amount of line from the reel, say 20ft.lay it out in front of you in a straight line.just using one hand point the rod at 10 o,clock, flick the rod to 2 o,clock using your forearm not twisting your wrist.wait a second or two then flick the rod back to 10 o,clock.you should feel the rod load behind you .do this a few times to get the casting action right, then progress.
