Hi all, I've just purchased a nice fly set up from rovers, fareham. I'm collecting the kit on Sunday has Paul is getting it all ready for me to use. It's a 9'6" rod so looking forward to getting the flies wet. Apart from Hill Head where else do you think it's worth trying? Also can I fish Haslar Mariner?

Hi castman. If you are after bass then Hayling Island is the place to go. Lots of bays, banks and bass holding features on the island. Search them out on Google Earth or a good old fashioned OS Map. The map will provide much more information than GE and is will be a lot faster in terms of identifying suitable spots to try.
Stokes Bay and Browndown are good venues for mackerel close to shore and well worth a visit of an evening. Stokes bay is also good for school bass, as is the mouth of the Hamble. Haslar Wall can produce macks and Pollack but tends to get quite busy with bait fishers when the shoals are in. The steepness of the wall can make casting a bit tricky.
Best of luck and don't give up! Success will come.
