Hi guys, I was wondering what people thought of using 100lb braid on a fixed spoil real with no shockleader for beach casting. I was thinking of using berkleys whiplash crystal braid. 100lb line is 0.28mm diameter witch is about the same diameter as 12lb mono

I understand mono can stretch and help take the shock of the cast but I dont like using shock leaders cause the weed gets caught on the shock leader knot, also the knot catches on the eyes of the rod when cast. And I question the strength of the knot as surely its a weak point?

Has anyone tried braid right through with no shock leader?

Any help on this matter would be hugely appreciated as im about to buy new line for my reels and need to make a decision.

Iv been in peru for 8 months fishing with locals and am now keen to get back into sea fishing in uk

Hi Keith, have you had any problems snapping off when casting?

0.38 diameter is interesting as the 100lb berkleys is 0.28

So many choices!

The only problem arises when some one tangles up with you as its murder to untangle but when playing a fish mono is more forgiving. Oh a good point is that because of the lower diameter a lighter weight can be used both for boat, pier and beachfishing

Yeah and you can cast further with lower diameter to.

Thanks for input Keith, anyone else got any advice or views?
