Shakespeare Salt FS 12ft beachcaster

After much research and wobbling a few in the shop,I finally plumped for a pair of these as they came on a cracking deal with Salt FDX reels (which I have reviewed seperately) for the princely sum of £80 per combo.

Now I've not ever really been a fan of Shakepeare stuff,so it was a leap of faith on my part. However,I am very pleasantly surprised. The blanks and fittings are finished to a very high standard, and for a 12ft fixed spool beachcaster it is VERY light. It has quality Fuji rings and reel seat which is a major bonus for not only performance, but also reliability.

Even with my limited overhead thump style, the blank compresses nicely even with a 4oz lead and I can easily hit 100yds with little effort,a vast improvement on my previous efforts.Bite indication is very good and the tips are very stable in the wind.

A nice extra is that they come with a pair of neoprene rod wraps each, which keep everything neat and tidy in your holdall. The rod bags are high quality too.

All in all, a big thumbs up for these rods - if you're in the market,I recommend you check them out as you could pay a lot more for nothing better.

I bought 2 of these rods as they gave me extra distance and felt nice to cast with. they are fine for light to medium fishing but when it gets wet, cold and wintery - they arent easy to use. george

Yes they are good but I have now found better and a tad cheaper too: Firefly Silhouette and Ovation. So good in fact that I just bought my second one.

i find that because there is such a large gap between the reel and 1st ring my line hits the back of my hand and cuts it if i put any effort in to casting. they should put a rind on the butt section. this was 1 of my 1st rods and i thought i was casting wrong untill i up graded.
