hi jimbo, i would definetly say that reliability is the thing you should be looking for. if your on a budget i would recomend getting a smaller hp outboard that is newer because it doesnt matter how big the engine is if it doesnt run then it is zero horespower. i personally wouldnt touch an old mecu...

dont want to confuse things for you but personally i think i would gor for a 9.9hp this would be plenty big enough and the fuel bill wont be as high. the bigger the engine the bigger the fuel(cant you tell im turning into a tight old bugger). before you you get on the water with your new outfit make...

the noise doesnt seem to be a knocking its more a grinding sound. doesnt seem to be any ooil anywhere and some time if you rev it out of gear as it is slowing it makes a squeeky sound. sorry hard to describe noises

cheers guys. just to let everyone know the fibreglassing is done now on the wilson flyer, hopefully gellcoating the deck tommorow if it stays dry and the she just needs painting and fitting out. still need an engine though. anyone know of a 60 - 75 hp available
