If you have a blank(or finished rod)that does not make optimum line strength clear work out its test curve by attaching a spring balance to the tip and bending rod/blank to 90 degrees.note reading in lbs/kg.multiply reading by 5(correct me if Im wrong on this!) to give an optimum line strength in lb...

use of bait boats as a means of fishing beyond casting range

much cheaper option would be a good kite/balloon with a release device when you get the reqd distance(only snag of course is the wind direction)the boats would work in calm conditions but how often would that be!!! Got to agree that they are a rip-off price for what they are,another"must have"gizmo ...

having been a mainly coarse angler for many years and gone through the carp craze in the 70s/80s it comes down to what you are confident in using in the way you enhance your bait-dont just blindly follow the latest "fads",do a bit of experimenting till you get a result.I did a lot of trial and error...

not been let down yet by trusty Fiesta diesel van(apart from leaky water pump hose last week)only problem is ground clearance on lumpy frozen packed down snow-its got better traction than our Focus too.

Hi mate-up to now I have used the Golds Supermatch rest(with a couple of custom touches)Its been fine.Recently got a pair of longer rods so am making a tripod to suit them using strong coarse fishing accesories(Nash,Korum etc)plus some own fabrication items.Not quite finished yet but will post an it...

Recently got some from Veals(plain black and the black with crossweave pattern)both have done a good job,various colours available.They also do something similar to wrap for tennis raquets-not tried it yet myself but it sounds O.K. hope this helps-cheers,Mick
