Walton Pier report Sat 5th Jan 2013

Post by Wickfordian » Fri Jan 11, 2013 1:32 pm

With a "perfect" high tide 5pm allowing set up in the light, fish 2 hours up, 2 hours down into darkness, hopes were high, especially with the rumours of "Big Cod" in the area.

Absolutely hopeless! On a busy pier I heard of 2 fish caught all day, a small bass & a small whiting. Several people walked past us going home not having had a sniff all day.

I had a baited drop net down for most of the session, several retrieves netted a total of 3 crabs, 2 hermits and 1 prawn. It even came up empty a few times, never seen that before - it was as if all the sea creatures had gone on holiday !

As posted elsewhere maybe a good blow will stir things up and get the fish closer to shore?
