myself and merlin headed off to the breakwater yesterday after a few more species for the count.
upon arrival the wind was quite gusty however we didnt let it put us off set up our rods 1 at range and 1 down the side.
it was bites from the off with the rods down the side of the wall but nothing at distance except my hooks kept going missing??
merlin had his first and only two maccies of the day, also a small spider crab
i had two of my bait traps in they produced 2 shore crabs and 2 small lobsters safely returned to grow a bit bigger.
we had lots of wrasse which yet again proved to be good sport.
the next visit will be a night one to see what else we can get on the species list

Spider Crabs are the likely culprit for severed hook lengths.

Ah is spot on. Some time ago I was fishing with Buck 2003 at Holyhead Breakwater when he pulled in the biggest spider crab I have ever seen.

He asked me if the claws were powerful whereupon I place my zippo lighter in on of its claws and it bent the sides of the zippo. I kid you not. The proof is here for you to see.

As you can see mono line would be no problem to them
